Presentation copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "Mr. J.D. Miller wishes me, as the author of this volume to say something nice about Lincoln. I can say truthfully that he is growing more rapidly in the affections of the people now, than at any other stage in history / J.C. Power / Memorial Hall, National Lincoln Monument. Springfield, Illinois / Feb. 18 1899." Power was custodian of this monument and secretary of the Lincoln Guard of Honour when there were bizarre plots to steal Lincoln's body and make merchandise out of it. Slight wear to corners and spine ends; bookplate of Victor Levit; a very nice copy, near fine.
