4to. 208 pp. With two original color lithographs by Marc Chagall created especially for the book; illustrations in color throughout reproducing preliminary and finished drawings by Chagall, and the finished windows. grey cloth, dust jacket. First Edition, German Issue. Record of one of Chagall's most memorable projects, the stained glass windows he designed for the synagogue which was to be part of the Hadaassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem; remarkable for the original lithographs, text fresh and plates bright. Vivid and delicious colours jump off the page. Jacket worn at edges with two closed tears at top edge and light chipping at extremities; touch of fading to cloth; overall very good to near fine. 2 Harunobu.  Noguchi, Yone
New York Kegan; Yokishawa 1940 
Kegan, New York; Yoshikawa, Yokohama, 1940, 4to, 147p. Lovely and unusual presentation, cream wraps bound with white cord stitching, many colour and black and white illustrations, some foldouts and on varied paper construction, very solid and clean, internally fine, over all near fine. With folding slipcase faded and rubbed but complete with ivory ties. One of 700 printed. Suzuki Harunabu (1724-1770) another of the Ukiyo-e school, used poetry to enhance his prints creating a romantic lyrical atmosphere. Beautiful work in an exotic and intriguing presentation. 3 Hiroshige  Noguchi, Yone
New York, Tokyo Kegan; Kyo Bun Kwan 1934 
4to. Limited edition of 1000 copies. Lovely and unusual presentation, cream wraps bound with white cord stitching, many colour and black and white illustrations, some foldouts and on varied paper construction, very solid and clean, some chipping to one tissue guard else near fine. Folding slipcase defective but intact, rubbed with spine faded but complete with ivory ties. The best English work on the Japanese artist. The Japanese painter and printmaker Ando Hiroshige (1797-1858) is considered one of the six great masters of the Ukiyo-e school. He is most famous for his landscape prints, which render typically Japanese landscapes in their different moods in a very poetic manner. A delightful work in an exotic and intriguing presentation.
